Physios launch bid for e-health record funds

The association has requested about 5000 Australian physiotherapy practices receive $5000 each in funding to buy software and upgrade IT equipment ahead of the PCEHR rollout on 1 July.

A spokesperson said the allied health sector, and physiotherapists in particular, would play a crucial role in the implementation of the PCEHR.

“It’s all very well to have the infrastructure within general practice but what good is that if there is nobody for the GPs to talk to?” the spokesman said.

“[Research shows] physiotherapists are the people GPs refer to the most, and make up about one in every 10 referrals.”

NEHTA national clinical lead Dr Mukesh Haikerwal said incentive funding was a question for the health department but there were inexpensive steps that could be taken to better integrate the allied health sector.

“In my area I have paid for my local allied health providers to receive my
