Pilots put doctors to shame

Doctors are no strangers to the dangers of fatigue yet the profession has yet to manage the risk adequately, argues a Melbourne-based anaesthetist.

While the adoption of safe working hours means doctors no longer have to work 36 hours straight, “little has changed” beyond that when it comes to fatigue management, says Dr Simon Hendel.

Writing in the MJA, he says doctors should take a leaf out of pilots’ books.
