Plans to move forward with Botox antidepressant

The idea that Botox (botulinum toxin A) could help with depression is continuing to be explored by the brand’s maker, Allergan, despite the latest trial showing patchy results.

Based on the “facial feedback” hypothesis, which holds that facial movement can influence emotional experience, Allegan is still hopeful the drug’s famous anti-wrinkle and anti-frowning formula can also be used to improve mood.

Anecdotal evidence suggests Botox is already used off-label for this purpose.
