Nine out of 10 asthma patients struggle to control their condition despite using fixed-dose combination inhalers, a damning review has revealed.

Poor adherence, poor inhaler technique and widespread patient ignorance about the warning signs of poor control are leaving Australians with some of the worst rates of asthma management in the world, according to NSW researchers.

Their findings come from reviews of 200 GP asthma patients using combinations of inhaled steroids and long acting beta-agonists.
