PPIs linked to increased elderly mortality

Physicians who discharge elderly people from hospital with a script for PPIs increase their chance of death within the next year by 50%, a study suggests.

After adjustment for a host of confounders, all-cause mortality remained significantly elevated in over-65s who were started on PPIs in hospital, compared with those hospitalised but not given PPIs, Italian researchers found.
