Pre-surgery statins improve outcomes

Putting more patients on statins in the run-up to surgery would shorten hospital stays, prevent MI and reduce atrial fibrillation, researchers claim.

In a meta-analysis of 15 trials, US researchers found patients put on statins for the first time in the lead-up to surgery had a 30% reduction in the length of their postoperative hospital stay.
