Pregnant women should avoid Bali over Zika risk: expert
Women who are pregnant or considering pregnancy should avoid travel to Bali because of the risk of Zika virus infection, a travel medicine expert says.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is advising that Indonesia has “sporadic transmission” of the Zika virus.
This means there is a low but significant risk of birth defects from mosquito-borne virus, according to Dr Bernie Hudson, a Sydney-based infectious diseases specialist and advisor to the Travel Health Advisory Group.
