Preventive stenting cuts cardiac death

Cardiologists are set to transform their approach to emergency stenting in ST-elevation MI, adopting a more aggressive strategy that could have major ramifications for the health system.

The change in approach follows the results of a “landmark” trial showing that pre-emptively stenting other stenosed vessels — as well as the one causing the MI — reduced rates of cardiac death and repeat MI by 64% over two years.
