Primary to pay $300,000 after address mix-up

DR EDMUND Bateman’s medical centre franchise has been ordered to pay about $300,000 in damages after a patient infected her partner with HIV because a letter informing of her condition went to the wrong address.

The NSW Supreme Court ruling came after the two Sydney doctors, who had previously admitted liability for the woman’s failure to be informed, launched a cross-claim against Primary Health Care company Idameneo.

Justice Megan Latham upheld the claim by Dr Harry Johnson, the centre director, and Dr Colin Gross that reception staff at Bondi Junction Medical
