Probiotics do not reduce allergies

Giving probiotics to infants doesn’t reduce their risk of developing allergies, eczema or asthma, according to long-term results from an Australian randomised trial.

At age five, there was no difference in rates of allergic diseases between children who took a daily probiotic as a liquid suspension in their first six-months of life to those who took placebo, the study found.
