Psychiatric patients fall through the cracks
More needs to be done to treat the physical health of patients with chronic mental illnesses, says the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
The college has issued a report that urges better management of medication side effects and calls for more collaboration between psychiatrists, GPs and allied health professionals.
It also highlights a need for consistent screening for cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
RANZCP president Dr Murray Patton says addressing poor physical health
