Push for inquiry into pathology deal's effect on GPs

Australia’s small business watchdog is being asked to investigate the Federal Government's controversial deal with pathology corporates to slash the rents they pay to GP practices.

The Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman, set up this year, has a remit to ensure “government policies take into account the needs of small businesses".

Now, the AMA has written to the ombudsman Kate Carnell (pictured) calling for an inquiry, amid claims the planned rent cap will strip 5000 GP practices of $150 million a year in revenue and force some to close down.
