Q&A: Should codeine be script only?
Dr Michael Vagg is a pain specialist who practises in Geelong, Victoria. He spoke with Alice Klein about the TGA’s proposal to make codeine a Schedule 4 medicine.
Q: If codeine becomes prescription only, how will GPs be affected?
Dr Vagg: It’s definitely going to have an impact on GPs because it’s potentially going to result in more people coming to see them with more types of pain. But I do see it as an opportunity to considerably improve the quality of prescribing of opioids
