Qld accused of profiting from tobacco while cutting quit programs

The charge levelled by the Heart Foundation comes on World No Tobacco Day and just a week after the state was awarded the AMA’s annual Dirty Ashtray Award in recognition of the jurisdiction deemed by the association to have done the least to combat smoking rates.

Heart Foundation health director Rachelle Foreman said that unlike other states, Queensland continues to invest in tobacco companies through the Queensland Investment Corporation.

She also said funding for a campaign to help people quit smoking was cut in last year’s state budget.
