Qld doctors' contract dispute breakthrough
A handful of union and lobby groups have reached an in-principle agreement after Health Minister Lawrence Springborg made a raft of concessions over the last month.
Spokesman and president of the Australian Salaried Medical Officers' Federation Tony Sara said the amendments will guarantee patient safety is not compromised to meet bureaucratic needs.
He warned, however, it is just an in-principle agreement and there are still key matters the government needs to address before a mass meeting of doctors scheduled for Wednesday night.
"The fact that the government has come back to the negotiating table in order to reach a resolution that meets the needs of Queenslanders is very welcomed," Dr Sara said.
Mr Springborg got cabinet approval on Monday for transfers and dispute resolutions and the new contracts will be sent out in the coming weeks.
The deadline to sign the document was also to be extended to 31 May.
