Qld ombudsman needs curbing

AMA Queensland and insurers MDA National said they had “grave and valid concerns” that the legislation for the ombudsman gave the state’s health minister Lawrence Springborg “unprecedented power” and the ombudsman the ability to “name and shame” practitioners.

“We believe [the ombudsman] lacks sufficient independence from government and undervalues clinical input into decision making,” AMA Queensland president Dr Christian Rowan said.
