Qld ombudsman powers concern

A report tabled by the state’s Health and Community Services Committee last week recommended passing the ombudsman bill without yielding to demands from medical groups to cement the watchdog’s independence by having it report to the parliament, not just to the health minister.

Forcing dilution of the health minister’s power over the ombudsman and mandatory input from professional bodies were two demands from groups including the RACGP and Avant.
