Queensland bans sunbeds
From 1 January, tanning salons will not be able to buy new sunbeds, and sunbeds already in use will not be replaced when they break down.
The change follows the introduction of similar legislation in NSW in February this year, which will see sunbeds banned in the state from 31 December 2014 in order to allow time for the tanning salon industry to adjust its businesses accordingly.
Queensland Health Minister Lawrence Springborg said if the industry did not end quickly the regulations might be toughened.
He added the changes were in step with community attitudes.
