Questions over menopausal hormone therapy

Australian women using menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) are twice as likely to develop breast cancer compared with women who have never used the therapy, NSW researchers have found.

Their study of over 1200 postmenopausal women with invasive breast cancer and 862 cancer-free controls shows the risk was greater for women taking combined hormone therapy with oestrogen and progestogen compared with oestrogen-only therapy.
