RACGP tweaks consent for third-party presence in draft standards

GP concern has led the college to amend a proposed practice standard that would have made it mandatory to obtain patient consent for third-party presence during a consult.

Following the first draft of the new accreditation standards, a split emerged within the profession over the requirement for GPs to obtain and document patient consent for a third party — such as a chaperone or registrar — to be present.

As a result, the suggested
