Random spot checks mooted for GP clinics

GP clinics should face random spot checks and be required to keep defibrillators in order to remain accredited, according to reaction to a RACGP consultation.

The ideas are among a raft of suggestions by GPs, practice managers, doctors’ groups and health reformers in submissions to the college as it prepares to write the next edition of its Standards for General Practices, due for release in late 2017.

Currently about 75% of practices opt to undergo accreditation, suggesting over 1700 clinics around the country are operating without it.
