Rapid rise of MenW prompts vax rethink

Infectious disease specialists are urgently rethinking vaccination options for meningococcal disease following the rapid emergence of the W serogroup as the predominant cause of invasive disease in Australia. 

The Chief Medical Officer, Professor Brendan Murphy, has set up an incident management team in response to figures showing that the rate of W serogroup increased rapidly in 2016, accounting for 43% of cases of invasive meningococcal disease.
