Rebate cuts mooted for inner-city patients

A plan to reduce Medicare rebates for inner-city GPs to 85% of the schedule fee has apparently been pitched to the Federal Government.

The contents of a paper, drawn up by Department of Health secretary Jane Halton, was originally floated as a policy option for last year's federal budget.

It would have meant an overall $1.75 increase in the bulk-billing incentive, according to
