Rebooting the e-health program

The Federal government is set to move on the troubled Personally Controlled E-health Record (PCEHR) program, with plans to test an opt-out model and offer GPs money to increase registrations.

Many health experts believed the initial PCEHR plan was flawed from the start by adopting an ‘opt-in’ model.

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia argued in 2013 that “the current ‘opt-in’ model for the PCEHR has significantly restricted its uptake by consumers
