Record GP bulk-billing claims questioned
Experts have challenged the Federal Government's boast that bulk-billing rates are at record high levels.
Health minister Tanya Plibersek announced this week that 81% of GP services were bulk-billed in the first quarter of the year.
The figure was in "stark contrast" to when Tony Abbott was health minister and bulk billing rates hit rock bottom at just 67% in 2003, she said.
But Professor Philip Davies of the School of Population Health at University of Queensland said while the statistics were true they did not show the full picture.
