Recuperating with poetry

Amid the cacophony of beeping heart monitors, defibrillators and IV drips, patients at Flinders Medical Centre are being encouraged to enter the calming world of poetry.

Writer-in-residence Dave Chapple (pictured) is running a series of individual and group poetry sessions in a bid to take patients’ mind off their illness and boost their mood.

“Writing is a very immediate way to reminisce about the past,” Mr Chapple said. “People feel comforted by being able to explain themselves, their lives and their experiences.”
