Red meat increases risk of death: study

Giving up red meat in favour of fish, chicken or whole grains could add years to your life, a large study of health professionals finds.

Using data from 120,000 US doctors and nurses, researchers found a strong and consistent link between red meat consumption and mortality, especially from cardiovascular disease and cancer.

For each extra serving of red meat per day, a person’s risk of overall mortality rose by 12%, found the study, which followed participants for up to 28
