Registration fee hike mooted
Doctors are being asked whether they will support increases to their medical registration fees to fund a national program for impaired doctors.
Doctors currently pay $670 per year for their medical registration, but none of this money goes towards programs to support doctors whose practice is affected by stress, substance abuse or other health issues.
Now the Medical Board of Australia has released a consultation paper asking doctors how much they are willing to pay on top of their annual registration fees to fund such a program. The consultation paper suggests amounts ranging from zero to more than $40 each year.
