Rego hike accepted, but doctors call for a cap

AMA president Dr Steve Hambleton said while the profession would be pleased to see the increase kept to a minimum this time, the efficiencies promised before the introduction of the national scheme were yet to be seen.

“With increased funds should come increased performance,” he said.

“We would still like to see the efficiencies we were promised and for AHPRA to fund doctors’ health advisory services so we can help people before they come to the attention of the boards.”

RACGP vice president Dr Liz Marles said the key question would be how well the registration process itself
