Reinstate item number for joint injections
More joint injections are being done under guidance by radiologists at a cost of a diagnostic ultrasound on the one day, and then a guidance imaging on the day of the injection.
For example, a tennis elbow injection which previously I could do and cost Medicare $17 is now being done by the radiologist at about $150. Most GPs of my day can manage a shoulder, knee, wrist, elbow, thumb or finger joint, and these do not need imaging.
Strangely, I have been less inclined to do them since I started doing them for nothing. If this is reversed quickly enough, we won’t all need to be retrained to do it again.
