Relief for thousands of GP practices as government ditches pathology rent deal

The Federal Government is axing its plan to slash rents paid to the 5400 GP practices that host co-located pathology centres.

The Coalition promised before the 2016 election to redefine the "market value" of pathology collection points, in a deal the AMA feared could see some rents drop by 50%.

But last night, that idea was ditched, sparking celebrations among practice owners, who collectively faced losing an estimated $150 million in revenue a year.
