Renewed efforts to fight for retired doctors’ rights
THE Australian Doctors’ Fund (ADF) has launched its bid to reinstate the rights of retired doctors, and will soon be mailing a proposal for a ‘senior active’ registration category to 14,000 doctors nearing retirement.
The national mail-out is the first stage in the fund’s campaign to amend the Medical Board of Australia’s decision to cut prescribing and referral rights for retired doctors.
CEO Stephen Milgate said the proposed ‘senior active’ registration category would allow doctors approaching retirement to ‘step down’ their practice.
The new category would require a $100 registration fee, a minimum CPD requirement of 10 hours a year, self directed, and an annual medical certificate. Initial feedback on the proposal was encouraging, Dr Milgate said.
