Review by AMA as pharma ethics queried

THE AMA Ethics Committee will review GPs’ responsibility to inform patients of any ties with pharmaceutical companies, after the Pharmacy Guild of Australia was again forced to defend its extensive involvement with industry, this time over genetics-based weight loss programs.

The guild came under fire last week for its endorsement of a weight loss program based on a genetic test offered by Melbourne company MyGene, reported by MO earlier this year (MO online, 12 April).
