Royal Flying Doctor Service spreads its wings into general practice

The Charleville clinic in the state’s south-west will officially open later this week but the first patients were seen on Tuesday by the clinic’s sole GP, Dr Steve Whiting.

The service has long had an air base at Charleville but this is the first time the flying doctors have expanded into general practice. 

The clinic is located at the medical centre of the local Murweh Shire Council and offers general practice and nursing services to the residents of Charleville and surrounds, with the capacity to bring in specialists and allied health professionals as needed.

The idea to open the clinic followed the announcement that the town’s long serving local GP, Dr Charles Wilson, would retire in December. A process is now underway to transfer Dr Wilson’s patients to the new clinic. 

Dr Whiting, 38, who previously worked at a private practice on the Sunshine Coast, recently moved his family to Charleville to work
