RU486 approval 'a win for women'

Federal Health Minister Tanya Plibersek has championed Labor’s record on women’s reproductive choices in the wake of marketing approval being granted for the abortion drug mifepristone.

In a parliamentary speech on Wednesday, Ms Plibersek (pictured) said the drug, popularly known as RU486, was denied to women for a decade during the Howard Government years because of “political interference”.
But she said women would now be able to “end a pregnancy ... in their own community, with their own doctor”, as a result of the drug
