Rupture rates higher in PIP implants

A UK investigation into the safety of PIP breast implants has concluded that the faulty device’s rupture rate is up to 75 times higher than that reported by Australian authorities.

The worldwide health scare surrounding the French-made Poly Implant Prothese [PIP] first made headlines at the end of December last year, with fears that there maybe a higher risk of rupture and that they were carcinogenic.

In the following months the Therapeutic Goods Administration gathered international data and carried out its own tests on the silicone breast implants to determine the health risks.
