Rural GPs told to pay back Medicare

Medicare is taking back thousands of dollars in rural incentives from doctors, which were apparently paid as the result of a bureaucratic bungle.

Dr Cynthia Jackson and her partner, both Queensland GPs, have been told by Medicare it has deducted $11,000 from the rural incentive payments they were due to get this year, after they were “overpaid” last year.
And Dr Les Wollard, a rural doctor from Moree in NSW, has been told to pay back $9,000 after the money was mistakenly paid to him last year. All the other doctors in the town also received letters
