Safe therapies underused in menopausal women
Many women with severe menopausal symptoms are untreated despite the availability of safe therapies, Australian researchers say.
Their study of over 1400 perimenopausal and postmenopausal women shows 11.3% use hormone therapy and 0.9% use non-hormone therapy like SSRIs.
However, 17% of women in the study report moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms and 18.3% report moderate to severe sexual symptoms.
The researchers from Monash University say those who take hormone therapy are more likely to choose oral oestrogen preparations than transdermal preparations or tibolone.
