One in four children with recurrent tonsillitis are not being referred for tonsillectomy, according to an Australian review.

The analysis by health system researchers found many children presenting to general practice or the emergency department with confirmed or suspected tonsillitis were not receiving care in line with Australian guidelines.

The Macquarie University-led study measured how doctors across Australia performed against 11 indicators of quality care.
