Self-management beats GP care for BP

Patients with hypertension can reduce their blood pressure by an extra 9mmHg if allowed to measure their own blood pressure and self-titrate their medication, UK GPs say.

Primary care researchers from Oxford University found that patients with hypertension could achieve substantial reductions in blood pressure if they followed pre-agreed protocols to increase their medication when more than four self-monitored measures were higher than an agreed target.
