‘Senior Active’ doctor registration gathers support

A PROPOSAL for the creation of a new Senior Active registration category for doctors winding down their clinical practice is gathering pace, with two specialist bodies now officially endorsing the measure.

The Australasian Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons (ASCTS) and the Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery have both endorsed the proposal, created by the Australian Doctors Fund (ADF) in response to restrictions in national laws that took effect last year.

The new laws effectively removed the long-held rights of doctors to continue dispensing repeat prescriptions and making referrals
