Sewage sleuths sniff out drug hot spots

One year of scientific analysis of WA's wastewater has confirmed it has the highest usage rates of the drug ice in the nation, says the state government.

The unusual method of testing sewage showed nearly 32kg of methamphetamine use a week in Perth alone and two tonnes or $2 billion worth in WA a year.

One of the aims of the tests is to help police work out in which areas the drug is being taken so they can concentrate their efforts on these hot spots. - AAP
