Shedding new light on men’s health issues

OLDER and disadvantaged Australian men will be encouraged to seek support for their mental health issues with fresh grants available through the Federal Government’s Men’s Shed initiative.

Twenty new sheds to be established across SA, Victoria and NSW will share in $750,000 worth of grants to be allocated via the program over three years. The funding will assist the development of work spaces and local community programs.

The original initiative, launched last year as part of the $16.7 million National Male Health Policy, provides informal meeting spaces for men to discuss their physical and mental wellbeing with other men.

Minister for Indigenous Health Warren Snowdon said adding to the 16 previously established Men’s Sheds was essential for continuing the dialogue on men’s mental health.
