Australia is moving closer to the provision of medicinal cannabis and pharmacists could be the sounding board and supply point for consumers, a leader of the profession believes.

Pharmacists in Victoria will be dispensing cannabis within two years if the state government succeeds with its plans to legalise the drug for medicinal purposes, as announced last week by state Premier Daniel Andrews.

In an Australian first, Mr Andrews announced last week that they want patients to have access to locally manufactured medicinal cannabis products in exceptional circumstances, with priority given to children with severe forms
