Study shows life-saving benefit, according to researchers

Pharmacist prescribing of statins would help reduce deaths and cardiovascular events, a US study suggests.


During a three-month intervention, pharmacists helped initiate 98 patients on statins, preventing around three total events and one death, stated report researchers from Providence St Joseph Health in Washington.

In most cases (67 out of 98), the statin was prescribed by the pharmacist, who also ordered follow-up laboratory tests, they wrote in the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association.
