Skin cancer epidemic among elderly

Elderly Australians are experiencing an ‘epidemic' of skin cancers, with numbers doubling in recent years, dermatologists warn.

The number of skin cancers being treated annually in Australia has increased from 400,000 in 1997 to just under 800,000 in 2010, according to Professor Rod Sinclair, professor of dermatology at the University of Melbourne and director of dermatology at the Epworth Hospital.
