Sleep drunkenness disorder a sobering thought

As many as one in seven people may be suffering from confusional arousals (CAs), sometimes known as sleep drunkenness disorder, research shows.

Despite a known strong correlation between psychotropic medication and CAs, a cross-sectional study shows that the disorder is actually more common among people not using medication.

Writing in the journal Neurology, the researchers say sleep and mental health disorders are important factors for CAs independent of medication use.
