Soy-fed girls show subtle reproductive changes

Exogenous estrogen exposure appears to be the cause

Infant girls who are exclusively fed on soy-based formula experience subtle changes in reproductive-system cells and tissues, according to an observational study of 400 infants who were either breastfed, given cow’s milk formula or soy formula.

“Relative to cow-milk formula-fed girls, soy formula-fed girls demonstrated tissue and organ-level developmental trajectories consistent with a response to exogenous estrogen exposure,” the researchers write in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
