States baulk at Plibersek’s plan

Negotiations to create an extra 180 medical intern places for next year are going down to the wire, with the states threatening to block an eleventh-hour proposal by the Federal Government.

State and territory health ministers were due to have a phone hook-up with Federal Health Minister Tanya Plibersek on Tuesday morning, after Ms Plibersek last week announced a one-off offer to create 100 extra intern places for the 180 graduating international students likely to miss out on a spot in 2013.
