Statin muscle aches are all in the mind

Statin intolerance is rare and most of the muscle aches reported by patients taking the drugs are due to old age rather than a drug side effect, a leading cardiovascular researcher says.

In an argument for ‘statin re-challenge' in patients with muscle symptoms, US lipid researcher Dr Connie Newman said clinical trial evidence shows that statin intolerance is not usually drug-related but mostly due to misattribution of common symptoms seen in older people.
